If you’re like me, the first thing you did this morning was check your accounting software to confirm your profit and loss reset to zero. And yes it did. The profit and loss is back to zero. A brand new financial year has begun.
But behind the clean figures, your business is still carrying everything forward. We think of end of financial year as an end. In reality, it’s a checkpoint. The scoreboard may be clear but the game is still on.
Your clients, staff, cash flow pressures and tax obligations didn’t reset overnight. And just so you know, the ATO isn’t taking a break. Expectations are rising, risks are still real and opportunities are out there waiting. A short breather is fine but this isn’t the time to drift. This is your moment to reset your mindset, sharpen your focus and step into the 2026 financial year with intent.
If I Could Call Every Business Client Today, The 4 Things I’d Say To Them:
- Start with your tax planning. It begins today, not next May. Some of the most valuable strategies only work when they are implemented early. Waiting until the final quarter limits your options. Act now while time is on your side.
- Build a realistic budget. One based on where your business is going, not where it has been. Know your targets, understand your costs and track from day one. A well-managed business starts with a well-structured plan.
- Look back briefly. If something did not work in in 2025, do not bring it into 2026. This is your opportunity to reset your thinking, fix what is not working and double down on what is.
- Take a short break then move. Have a bit of time off (like I would) but after that July is not downtime. It is launch time. This is when smart business owners take control by reviewing structure, refining pricing, and locking in a clear direction before the year gains speed.
The scoreboard is clear, but the clock is ticking. What you do next will define the rest of the year. You have time, clean numbers, and a fresh window. Use them. Most won’t.
