“I went searching for loyalty… only to realise that I had left with the wrong address in hand…” This is a rough translation of a less known song written by Gaurav Dagaonkar and Arafat Mehmood.
In commercial world, “loyalty” is one of those words that’s easy to say but rare to see. Everyone swears they’ve found it. Few can actually prove it exists.
We all set out with a clear plan. Deliver quality, go the extra mile and build relationships on trust and results.
Then reality shows up…
- The “loyal” customer trades years of trust for a cheaper option, forgetting you were also delivering peace of mind, consistency, and the occasional miracle.
- The “reliable” supplier disappears right before a crucial deadline.
- The “mutual” partnership? Turns out “mutual” meant you do the heavy lifting while they enjoy the view.
- The “dedicated” employee jumps ship for a shinier title, only to find the grass is just spray painted greener.
- The “amazing” job gets oddly forgotten once the invoice shows up.
But every so often, you strike gold…
- A customer who stays when others undercut you.
- A supplier who delivers early without excuses.
- A partner or team member who treats your business like it’s their own.
- An employee who steps up in a crisis without being asked.
- A client who recommends you even when there’s nothing in it for them.
Those are the ones worth holding onto. Because in business, genuine loyalty is rarer than instant success and infinitely more valuable.
Wrong maps make funny stories. The right people make you forget you ever went searching…
